In the essay On Weaving, what I respond to is the interrelation of two forms, in which
I can imagine the two systems were first designed separately, and then reveal itself in a new way through the process of production. So how much control should we give to these two or more systems at first? Is it better to let them grow in a non controllable way? Like in graphic design, two unrelated images or materials always form a new message when they being overlap, aligned, woven, cut and paste. And our eyes naturally try to solve the puzzle in that subtle play, even the designer might not intend to communicate that much.

I love what the author says about the twill “fundamental in its simplicity but one step nearer the complexity,” which shows a sense of control and order. And it’s just amazing but also tricky to see how the whole process can be analyzed in the algorithm, somehow makes it more a machine like activity and less humane. For this moment, I am not sure what kind of systems I want create, how much control I want to have, and what my role is in this digital process. But I am excited about the possibility in “interrelation”, from where many unexpected ideas might be generated.
